SDP slams Gov. Ikpeazu over insensitivity to teachers, pensioners’ plight in Abia

The Social Democratic Party (SDP), has slammed the Abia State
government for its alleged insensitivity to the plight of teachers and
pensioners in the state.

The chairman of SDP in the state, Hon. Chidi Nwosu, who spoke with
reporters at a press conference in Umuahia, on Thursday, claimed that
none of the pensioners in the state had received gratuities since
Governor Okezie Ikpeazu assumed office in 2015.

He said, "None payment of gratuities has become a sin-qa-none, no
retiree has received his or her gratuities since the governor assumed
office.

"Pensioners and secondary school teachers have to brace up. There is
no promise the Governor has made on the clearing of secondary school
teachers salary arrears that he has not reneged.

"The governor says so much and does next to nothing. He does not worth
his talk. Secondary school teachers were last paid in February, more
than six months ago".

"The teachers have never been paid promotion arrears since the
inception of Okezie Ikpeazu government. And they have been owed annual
leave grants for more than ten years just like their counterparts in
primary schools".

Nwosu said, SDP as part of her social responsibility to the people of
Abia state, shall to periodically evaluate sectoral performance of the
PDP-led administration in the face of unabated sufferings of the
people.
