Kogi police treating case of murdered pregnant woman with levity – Family members allege
Mrs Asabe Usman Obaje, a mother of six and an expectant twin mother before she met her untimely death according to her relative, Mr Paul Obaje, was returning from Odogomu to her Ofano village at about 6pm on July 12 when she was ambushed and killed by some criminal elements.
Obaje described the killing as barbaric and inhuman.
He said that following the incident, three suspects believed to be perpetrators of the heinous act were arrested by the police and taken to the Okaba police out post.
He, however, raised concerns that the police in the area were handling the matter with levity, a situation which forced some members of the family to approach the police to demand for justice over the matter
Obaje, who decried the development, called on the inspector general of police to ensure that the culprits in the matter don’t escape justice.
Confirming the incident to DAILY POST in Lokoja, the Kogi State Police command Public Relations Officer, ASP William Aya said that the suspects have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Lokoja.
He said that it was a case of culpable homicide and the Command would not treat it with levity.
On the arrest of the deceased’S family members, Aya said that those arrested had gone to the police and demanded that the suspects arrested should be released to them for jungle justice.
He, however, said the allegations that the police collected N30,000 before releasing the family members was not true.
