They Thought It Was Yahoo” – Zlatan Ibile Reveals Why His Parents Rejected His First Mansion
“When I hammered my first big money as an artiste, I bought my first house for 70M Naira in Lekki, and asked my parents and siblings to go and live there. They were still in the ghetto then.
“Shockingly, my parents refused. They wanted to know how I got money to buy such a big house. They were afraid I had gone into Yahoo Yahoo (frǎüd). So they flatly refused to move to the house.
“I had to convince them that it was music that gave me the money. I went as far as going to print my bank statements to convince them. It was then they accepted. But they told me that they’d need 7 days to pray first before they can move into the house. After the prayers, they told me that if they have to move into the house, then I must live in the house with them.
“I didn’t like the idea of staying with my parents. I was already getting popular. And I wanted privacy to be able to do all my runnings, you understand? But I had no option. I really wanted them to leave the ghetto. So I moved in with them, and we lived there together for sometime before more money came and I bought another house and moved out.”
