Lagos has never been a walkover. These were not gift-wrapped victories - they were contested, fought, and in some seasons, fiercely so. It was Asiwaju's superior strategy, deployed like a grandmaster's hand, that ensured Lagos never fell to wolves.
1999, the return to democracy came with a wave to the Awocentric Aliance of Democray, hence the rout. Asiwaju himself faced a battle for his political life in 2003 against the formidable Funsho Williams and won through tooth and nail.
2011 belonged to Fashola's performance - a governor so commanding that no opposition, least of all a listless Dosunmu, could stand in his shadow. 2019 told a similar story: Agbaje returned, uninspired and uninspiring, and Lagos answered accordingly.
Then came 2023 - something deeper than politics. SanwoOlu versus Chinedu was not merely an election. It was Yoruba's fight for territorial dignity. Cultural pride on the ballot. Existential survival appearing as intense motivation.
And yet - the opposition audits Lagos and blames Asiwaju. A lazy farmer, as the elders say, always quarrels with his hoe.
Tinubu will not apologize for his astuteness, his foresight, his vision, or his relentless political intelligence. The harvest speaks for the farmer.
May Nigeria win and Tinubu till 2031.
