Bandits Kill Emir Of Zamfara's Guard, Jamilu, In Highway Ambush (Photos)

A member of the guard unit attached to the Emir of Zamfara, Alhaji Abdulkadir Ibrahim Bello, has reportedly died after bandits ambushed the entourage along the Mayanchi–Anka Road in Zamfara State.

According to information shared on X by security analyst Bakatsine, the attack occurred on Sunday afternoon when armed bandits targeted members of the Emir’s guard, locally known as Dogarai, while they were travelling along the highway.

According to the report, one of the guards, identified as Jamilu, who was known for traditionally holding the Emir’s ceremonial umbrella during official outings, sustained gunshot wounds during the ambush.

The report said Jamilu was rushed to Gusau General Hospital for treatment but later died from his injuries.

“This tragic incident once again shows the growing insecurity along our highways and the dangers faced daily by citizens,” the security expert said.

The circumstances surrounding the attack were not immediately clear, and efforts made by SaharaReporters to reach the police authorities in the state failed at the time of filing this report.

The latest attack highlights growing concerns over insecurity on highways across Zamfara State, where residents and travellers frequently face threats from bandit groups.

Over the years, several communities in the state and across Nigeria’s north-west have suffered repeated attacks, kidnappings and ambushes attributed to bandits operating in rural and forested areas.

Security analysts and residents have continued to raise concerns over the persistent attacks on major roads, calling for stronger measures to protect travellers and local communities.
