The General Overseer of Omega Fire Ministries, Apostle Johnson Suleman, has cautioned those who routinely blame Christian clerics whenever incidents of terrorism or violent att+cks occur in the country.
Speaking during a church service, Suleman
expressed frustration over what he described as an unfair pattern of accusing
pastors of silence each time insecurity escalates.
“You see all the attacks that are going on now,
the attack, terrorism and all of that. And as soon as it happens, they call
pastors, ‘why are pastors not talking?’ You are s%ck,” he said.
He went on to explain why he considered such
criticism misplaced.
“Let me tell you why I said you are sick. Have
you ever heard somebody before he pulls a trigger say ‘praise the Lord’ and
then he sh++ts somebody? Or he says ‘thank you Jesus’ and he pulls a trigger?”
he asked rhetorically.
According to him, those questioning pastors
should instead direct their concerns to leaders of the religions associated
with perpetrators of such v+olence.
“The first people you should call are those in
that religion. It’s their religious leaders you should call, not pastors.
Pastors should speak for the sake of humanity. Does terrorism have a Christian
nomenclature? What do they shout before they k+ll people?” he asked.
The congregation responded with, “Allahu Akbar.”
Suleman then added, “Is that a Christian
parlance? So why are you calling pastors?”
The cleric emphasised that Christian leaders
should not be held responsible for addressing acts committed by groups that
clearly do not identify with Christianity, insisting that the responsibility
for public commentary should begin within the affected religious circles.
