Senator Ned Nwoko has reacted to the viral video showing his wife, Nollywood actress Regina Daniels, in visible distress, attributing the ongoing tension in their marriage to what he described as her “battle with drugs and alcohol abuse,” News360 Nigeria reports.
The video, which sparked widespread concern among fans, showed Regina tearfully saying, “In Ned Nwoko’s house I am nothing, but in my own house I am a queen. Not again, I can’t stand the violence, it’s too much.”
The clip also prompted a strong response from the actress’s brother, who took to Instagram vowing to defend her against alleged domestic abuse.
However, in a statement posted on his official X (formerly Twitter) handle, Senator Nwoko denied accusations of domestic violence, insisting that his wife’s behaviour stems from substance dependence.
“Regina was not always like this. Her current battle with drugs and alcohol abuse is the root of our problem. She must continue her rehabilitation program, or I fear for her life and safety,” the senator wrote.
He explained that his attempts to have her undergo treatment have often met resistance, noting, “The truth is, I have set a clear condition for her to accept rehab in Asokoro or outside Nigeria, especially Jordan, where she will not have access to drugs.”
Nwoko further alleged that Regina had recently become violent at home, claiming she assaulted three domestic staff and destroyed property during an outburst. “She is the violent one here, slapping and hitting staff in the past 48 hours and destroying cars and windows for no just cause,” he stated.
The lawmaker also linked her alleged addiction to two individuals, saying, “A scene of chaos unfolded at home, orchestrated by Sammy, Regina’s main drug supplier. Another known supplier of drugs to Regina is the tiny evil devil called Ann.”
Maintaining his innocence, Nwoko added, “I have other wives, and none will ever accuse me of violence.”
He appealed to the actress to seek full rehabilitation, saying that only through professional help could she overcome her struggles and recover her health.
