69% Of Prisoners Awaiting Trials In Nigeria’ - Lawyers Without Boarders
The Avocats Sans Frontieres France, popularly known as Lawyers Without
Boarders, has alleged that over 69 percent of inmates in Nigeria’s
prisons are awaiting trials. Head of ASF in Nigeria, Angela Uwandu,
stated this in Abuja yesterday at the launch of SAFE project titled
“Strengthening the National Actors’ Capacities and Advocating for Ending
Severe Human Rights Violations in Nigeria”.
According to her, ASF is determined to provide legal aid for victims of human rights violation in Nigeria and address alleged extra judicial executions, torture, ill-treatment and arbitrary detention by security agencies.
The representative of the Inspector-General of Police, SP Kalu Chijioke, assured that the police would continue to be accountable and transparent in its dealings with cases of such.
