FG Hints On Revival Of Two Ministries Scrapped In 2015 (See Names)

There are strong indications that the Federal Government of Nigeria may bring back two defunct federal ministries that were scrapped in 2015 immediately after the emergence of President Muhammadu Buhari, DAILY INDEPENDENT reports.

It was gathered in Abuja on Monday that the two ministries, Federal Ministry of Special Duties and Federal Ministry of States and Local Governments Affairs, when resuscitated would be serving as an ombudsman among three tiers of government as well as other pertinent functions.

Speaking at the inauguration of permanent standing committee on inter-governmental affairs, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary of Ecological Fund, Habiba Lawal, also explained that the committee, which was transferred to his watch in 2015 when the two ministries were scrapped later became dormant.

“The Committee is not new as such, as it had existed under the defunct Federal Ministry of Special Duties and Inter-Governmental Affairs.

“However, following the scrapping of the ministry at the inception of the present administration in 2015, two Departments of the Ministry, namely, Special Duties as well as States and Local Governments Affairs, were transferred to the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation and thus the Committee became dormant,” Mr. Mustapha said.

Buhari had upon his emergence in 2015 compressed the Federal Ministries from 31 to 24, which paved way for former governor of Lagos State, Babatunde Fashola, to take charge of three key ministries – Power, Works and Housing.
