Lagos APC rally: How I escaped death – Journalist

One of three journalists, who were shot on Tuesday at the flag-off
campaign of Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the governorship candidate of the All
Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos, a News-Telegraph correspondent,
Temitope Ogunbanke,, has recounted his experience after escaping death
from the gunshot.

The journalist, who spoke to our correspondent, said he was hit on his
neck and stomach by the bullet.

According to him, the bullet touched his stomach and fled past him,
saying he felt the touch of the bullet on his stomach while it pierced
his face.

He said, "Escaped gunshots on my neck and stomach.

"I thank God that I am alive. When I felt the bullet in my stomach, I
thought I was dead. It was when I opened my eyes and touched the
stomach and saw no blood that I knew I was still alive. But I was
scratched by the bullet on my face."

DAILY POST had reported that three journalists, including the Group
Political Editor of The Nation newspaper, Emmanuel Oladesu,
News-Telegraph correspondent, Temitope Ogunbanke, and Ibile Television
cameraman, Abiodun Yusuf, were hit by bullets during the rally.

It was also reported that three other people were killed while a
number of persons were also injured, robbed and beaten at the rally.

DAILY POST reports that suspected rival groups of the National Union
of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) started the trouble, shooting one
another during which the Lagos State Treasurer of the National Union
of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Musiliu Akinsanya also known as 'MC
Oluomo' was severely stabbed.

It was gathered that the rival groups have been on each other's neck
since Oluomo declared his ambition of becoming the Lagos Chairman of
the Union.

Meanwhile, the Police command in Lagos State has declared one Mustapha
Adekunle, aka Seigo, a chieftain of the National Union of Road
Transport Workers (NURTW), wanted in connection with the incident,
while two suspects have been reportedly arrested.
