Lagos 2019: What Sanwo-Olu told APC members about non-Yoruba speaking voters
All Progressives Congress, APC, and the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP,
after other parties formed a coalition with APC, the APC governorship
candidate, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has called for unity among party
members for their victory at the polls, adding that non-indigenes
should be carried along in the campaign activities of the party.
Sanwo-Olu, who said this at a meeting with the Lagos West APC leaders,
pointed out that the non-indigenes have been living in the state for
decades as such they must be included in the scheme of things in the
state.
"We must ensure we don't have issues among ourselves. The non-Yoruba
speaking voters are much in this senatorial district and so we must
ensure we embrace everybody. We must make sure we are formidable and
be a united house because our opposition would be looking out for
loopholes to penetrate us ahead of the elections."
He stressed that the senatorial district cannot be toyed with being
the largest district, stressing that ongoing projects across the state
most especially in Badagry would not be abandoned.
Sanwo-Olu explained that much of his concentration would be on the
Lagos West if voted into power, eulogising the leadership of the party
in the district over how they were able to resolve conflicts within
themselves.
In his comment, the Deputy Director-General of the Independent
Campaign Group (ICG), Cardinal James Odunbaku, outlined the
responsibilities of the Assistant Director-General (Lagos West), Hon.
Moshood Salvador, saying that he is to collate the reports of the
campaign activities in the district for the Director-General of ICG.
Odunbaku pointed out that Salvador would be working hand in glove with
the senatorial campaign coordinator, stating that he would execute
instructions given by the DG and Deputy Director-General of the ICG.
Speaking at the occasion, the Assistant Director-General (Lagos West),
Hon. Moshood Salvador, assured the party that he would strategize to
give the party the desired victory at the polls.
Salvador stated, "The challenge before me is to make sure Sanwo-Olu
wins in Lagos State with landslide victory and President Buhari is
returned. It is an assignment given to me and I can assure you that it
will be delivered.
"APC has not been able to maximize its capacity. I will bring my
experience to bear to ensure it performs maximally at the forthcoming
elections. My target is to get two million votes for APC during the
governorship election in Lagos.
"I am appealing to all APC aggrieved members to shield their swords,
remember that we are working for the victory of the party, the party
is above any one individual, so we must put the party's interest
first."
Salvador said all assistant directors who he described as being up to
the task, were prepared to achieve the set goal of the newly formed
campaign group.
