Impeachment: Heavy security at Anambra Assembly, movement restricted, journalists barred
House of Assembly.
22 out of the 30 members of the Assembly had on Tuesday purportedly
removed the speaker, Rt Hon Rita Maduagwu.
The members cited highhandedness, gross misconduct, docility and
financial impropriety as reasons for her removal.
But Maduagwu shortly after the house adjourned to Thursday (today)
surfaced with 10 members of the house, debunking her removal.
She moved further to hold another plenary and adjourned to the same
date as the previous group.
This morning, security agents comprising police officers and civil
defense cordoned off the Assembly, restricting movement around the
area, while citing orders from above.
The security official stopped everyone except workers at the complex
from gaining access to the compound.
Though lawmakers had not started arriving, our correspondent gathered
that some of the lawmakers, especially those opposed to the former
Speaker may not be able to gain access into the compound.
As at the time of filing this report, journalists were still barred
from entering the Assembly complex.
