2019 presidency: PDP chieftain, Suleiman Ukandu backs Igbo leaders, blasts Buhari, APC

A prominent chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, chieftain
and a member of Abia State Advisory Council, Alhaji Suleiman Ukandu,
has backed the endorsement of a former Vice President and presidential
candidate of the opposition PDP, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, by the Igbo
leaders of Thoughts led by Professor Ben Nwabueze.

DAILY POST recalls that Atiku received the endorsement in Enugu during
a gathering of Igbo leaders on Wednesday.

Ukandu, while reacting to the development in an chat with DAILY POST
in Umuahia, the Abia state capital, on Friday morning, asserted that
Ndigbo will fare better under the PDP presidential flag bearer.

He pointed out that Atiku understands the workings of a contemporary
nation like Nigeria, and expressed optimism that the All Progressives
Congress, APC-led administration will be ousted from office come 2019.

"There is no doubt that Atiku will restructure this country because he
really mean well for this country. He has the experience and
understands the workings of a contemporary nation state.

"I believe he will restructure this country looking at his antecedents
as a detribalized Nigerian, as a person who has shown interest in
upholding the unity of the country.

"Our problems will be cushioned if we restructure this entity called
Nigeria, along the multifaceted outlooks.

"We need fiscal federalism allowing the component units to be
financially independent. So, restructuring will help in making states
economically viable. It will be a kind of palliative to enhance a
proper national integration".

The Muslim leader boasted that his party, the PDP, remains the
solution to the myriad of problems besetting the country, and called
on eligible Nigerian electorates to vote out Buhari and the APC in the
upcoming 2019 presidential election in the country, stressing that the
present federal government has impoverished the people.
