2019: 50 APC members, supporters defect to PDP in Abia, say no vacancy in Govt House
have defected to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Nkporo, Ohafia
local government area of Abia state.
Nkporo clan is the hometown of the Abia Deputy Governor, Ude Oko Chukwu.
Speaking at Agbaja village square while declaring for the ruling
Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the state, the Secretary APC Nkporo
Political Stakeholders Forum and the leader of the defectors, Mr Emeka
Okoro, said they decided to join hands with the PDP because of the
good works of the state governor and to support the re-election of
their son who they said has done so much for his people.
He said, "It will be recalled that in 2015, we voted against PDP. But
today, we have decided to join the ruling party, because we have seen
the light.
"We are seeing the people-oriented projects of the state governor,
scattered in all the parts of the state. We are assuring you that come
2019 election, we will collectively ensure Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu, and his
Deputy, are returned back to Government house.
"We also want to use this opportunity to tell the opposition APC and
APGA, that there is no vacancy in the Abia government house come
2019".
Earlier in his speech, the state Deputy Governor, Ude Oko Chukwu,
thanked them for coming back to the root, stating that their exit was
as a result of certain unfortunate circumstance but expressed gladness
that they are now seeing the good works of Governor Okezie Ikpeazu and
hence their decision to come back and support him and their son,
Chukwu.
He urged them to work seriously to ensure the victory of not only the
governor and his deputy in the 2019 polls, but all PDP candidates in
the race.
Receiving the defectors, the Ohafia local government PDP Chairman,
Chief John Okocha thanked them for rejoining the state ruling party ,
and noted that Nkporo community and Agbaja in particular have remained
a PDP strong base.
He urged them to work assiduously for the victory of their son, Sir
Oko Chukwu, in next year's election.
