APC crisis: Faction calls for arrest of Buhari’s minister over anti-party activities
ordered security agencies to arrest the Minister of Niger Delta
Affairs for alleged anti-party activities.
The group (Factional APC) also threatened to seal the office of the
APC parallel group located at 117 Ndidem Iso Road in Calabar Municipal
of the state
Addressing a press conference Tuesday night, the Chairman of the
factional group, Dr Matthew Achigbe, lamented the activities of the
parallel group saying, it portrayed the party in a bad light.
"Our party, the All Progressive Congress in Cross River State has been
in the news consistently in recent times as a result of the ongoing
electioneering process, which leads towards the 2019 polls.
He said while the party was waiting for the arrival of the committee
and materials for the said primaries on Sunday, September 30, Pastor
Usani Usani, Minister of Niger Delta Affairs was said to have pulled
out a group of party members who assembled at various points across
the state in the guise of conducting governorship primaries.
"That exercise, as illegal as it was, had not the backing of the law,
the supervision and endorsement of the national leadership of the
party or that of the INEC as well as law enforcement agencies.
"Unfortunately, only yesterday evening, we gathered from media reports
that Pastor Usani Usani has been declared the winner of the primaries
and candidate of the party for the 2019 governorship elections.
"We want to state categorically that the declaration was not only
false, illegal and undemocratic but criminal in every sense of the
word.
"The party held an authentic primary election on Monday, October 1st
in all the wards as conducted by the governorship primary election
committee using materials which came from the national echelon"
The Chairman said that the Minister had a sinister motive, perhaps to
rob the party of victory in the forth coming polls as his actions
before and during the party primaries suggest.
He ordered security agencies to summarily arrest and detain Pastor
Usani Usani for severally attempting to cause breach of public peace
and for inciting the members against the party's leadership.
"In the light of this, We urge that this criminal and or fraudulent
agenda of the Minister be checked by the national leadership while we
call on law enforcement agencies to summarily arrest and detain Pastor
Usani Usani for severally attempting to cause breach of public peace
and for inciting the members against the party's leadership" he
ordered.
Dr Achigbe, however, implored all aggrieved interest to explore these
legal means in addressing their grievances whatsoever. Setting for the
option balkanizing the party or being involved in any sinister motive
that is intended to jeopardise its chances of victory, is to say the
least, satanic and therefore unacceptable" he said.
Consequently, the Chairman said he will take constitutional procedure
to ensure that Pastor Usani Uguru Usani is punished; he has taken All
Progressive Congress (APC) for granted.
He organized parallel primaries that produced him as gubernatorial
candidate of the party in the State.
Dr Achigbe explained that, that primaries was the height of disloyalty
to the party and the National Working Committee (NEC) of APC, it is
the height of the crime.
Pastor Usani was supposed to be subject to the directives of the NEC
and the party, I have never seen such rascality creating an impression
that it was not well with the party.
For issue of INEC presence at the primaries conducted by the alleged
illegal group, the party said primaries is basically the creation of
political party and INEC has no role to play.
"We only invite INEC to observe and supervisor, anybody can be so
invited to observe a process, INEC presence does not make any
different but their appearance at the primaries was unfortunate" he
said.
Consequently, on the protest of some aspirants over the conduct of the
primaries in the state, the Chairman said some members of the party
are mischievous even in their action and behaviour alleging that some
card carrying members of the party are performing the script written
by members of People's Democratic Party (PDP) with a view to pulling
down APC.
