Stop heating up Delta polity – PDP warns Oshiomhole
(PDP), Chief Sunday Onoriode, Wednesday, warned that the continuous
boast by the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC),
Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, to take over Delta State and two other
South-South states could stir crisis.
Onoriode, while reacting to a statement in Abraka credited to
Oshiomhole about his plans to take over at least three South-South
states with Delta as priority, expressed shock, stressing that his
(Oshiomhole's) statement "does not portray him as elder statesman".
He wondered why Oshiomhole would go to the extent of boasting about
taking over Delta State during the 2019 elections, where he lacked the
franchise and cannot wield the needed political might.
Onoriode said, "I don't expect a former governor to go to the press
and boast that he is going to take over another state, where he lacks
voting right (franchise); where he has no control over what is going
on and one begins to wonder how he intends to achieve this.
"He should be wary of his choice of words because such unguarded
statements are capable of heating up the polity at the national and
state levels, especially now that the 2019 elections are around the
corner. Delta is a very sensitive state because of its different
ethnics groups and poor choice of words could spark crisis here in the
state. Oshiomhole should steer clear of Delta".
Asked what the party was doing to wrestle power from the incumbent APC
senator representing Delta Central Senatorial District at the Senate,
Barr. Ovie Omo-Agege, the PDP official said: "Considering the
political structure we have on ground in the state, I can assure you
that PDP will win the senatorial election, convincingly.
"As you know, in Delta Central, all the aspirants are made of good
stuff. So, we will capture the senatorial position".
