APC vs PDP: Gov Ishaku’s supporters issue ultimatum to Oshiomhole over ‘reckless comments’
Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Adams Oshiomhole, to
retract his comment against the Taraba helmsman or face court action.
Chairman of Taraba Network for Peace and Development, Alhaji Haruna
Musa and Secretary, Yusuf Illiya, gave the warning while addressing
the media on Wednesday in Jalingo.
They said Ishaku was duly elected as affirmed by the Supreme Court and
that Oshiomhole's comment that the governor didn't win by popular
votes was an affront on the rule of law.
Last Monday, Oshiomhole lampooned Ishaku, promising that the APC will
give Taraba an active chief executive.
The former Edo governor spoke while swearing in Hon. Ibrahim Tukur
El-Sudi as the Taraba State APC Chairman.
Oshiomhole said: "We are in very interesting times, we have a governor
in Taraba on the PDP platform and who narrowly escaped with the
position courtesy of the rigging machine of the PDP.
"From all that I hear from the ordinary people of Taraba, they can't
wait to have Governor Darius Ishaku out of the government house of
Taraba.
"Under the APC, the good people of Taraba state will witness
sustainable development, peace, and security. They will have a
resident governor.
"Because what we have now is a governor that spends one day in Taraba
and six days outside Taraba whether in Lagos, London or in other parts
of the world. You can't govern in absentia."
Firing back, the group advised the APC national chairman to withdraw
his 'reckless statements' within seven days or risk lawsuit.
Musa said: "We can no longer sit back and watch Oshiomhole make wild
and false allegations and cast aspersions on the integrity of the
nation's judicial verdicts which upheld the election of Governor
Darius Ishaku.
"Oshiomhole benefited from judicial verdict when the Supreme Court
installed him as the Governor of Edo State and for him to turn today
and make unsubstantiated claims against Gov Ishaku and the court is
uncalled for.
"We reject falsehood as weapon of political opposition and advise
Oshiomhole to retract his statements and apologise to Governor Darius
Ishaku and the people of Taraba State for this act of political
blackmail."
