Nigerians react after Osinbajo ordered IGP Idris to overhaul SARS

Nigerians on social media have reacted to the order by Acting
President Yemi Osinbajo, directing the Inspector General of Police
(IGP) to overhaul the management and activities of SARS with immediate
effect.

We had reported that Osinbajo, in a statement by his spokesman, Laolu
Akande, said that any unit to emerge from the process, must be
intelligence-driven, restricted to the prevention and detection of
armed robbery, kidnapping, and apprehension of offenders linked to the
stated offences.

The order followed complaints from Nigerians, accusing SARS officers
of several misconducts ranging from harassment, extortion, assault to
extra-judicial killings.

In their reactions to the directive, some Nigerians applauded
Osinbanjo for the order, while others accused the Buhari-led
government of acting towards next year's election to get votes from
the youth.
