2019: Vote out bad govt, get involved in politics – Prelate tells Presbyterians

The Prelate/moderator of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian
Church of Nigeria, His Eminence, Rev. Nzie Nsi Eke has directed
Christians in the country to ensure that they vote out bad governance
in Nigeria, even as he urged members of his church to get involved in
politics.

Speaking with DAILY POST in Calabar, he lamented the difficulties
being experienced in the country by Nigerians including Christians.

Rev Eke directed Christians to ensure that they collect their
Permanent Voter Cards, as the "PVC is your power, use it to votes out
bad government that do not have your interest at heart," he said.

The Presbyterian Prelate continued, "Let me quickly remind all those
who do not have permanent voter cards (PVCs) to do so immediately
after this assembly. Christians should vote out those who are really
not doing what they are telling them. You can only use your PVC to
vote them out.

"If you do not have it, you are denying yourself a fundamental right
to choose your leaders. And I encourage Presbyterians to get actively
involved in politics at all levels so that we can help influence the
society for the better," he said.

Rev. Eke called on the Independent National Electoral Commission,
INEC, to ensure that Nigerians have free and fair election, telling
the electoral umpire: "let our votes count, let people see that our
elections are free and fair".

On the wave of defections and politicking in the country, he said, "I
keep saying it; I want to repeat it, even if you move from one party
to the other and then your heart is not yet changed, it is the same
person who moves from one party to the other.

"But when they are moving again from this other party to another, they
cause confusion. What kind of society do we live in? If politicians
want to create trouble, posterity will not forgive them, God himself
also has a way to judge.

"As you change to another party, go back and tell your people where
you want to go and get their consent" he advised.

Also speaking on the killings in parts of the country, Rev. Eke said,
"Nobody appreciates killing and we reject that kind of spirit,
destroying what you cannot produce.

"As a Church, we really mourn for those who lost their love ones. We
are praying and asking these kinds of killings to stop; nobody
appreciates that.

"We are asking those who are involved to stop it. Federal government
should acknowledge that the killing is bad and all kind of killings be
stop, we don't appreciate it," he stated.
