Osun APC splits as spokesman condemns suspension of chairman, secretary
suspension of the state chairman, Prince Gboyega Famodun and the
secretary, Alhaji Rasaq Salinsile.
The party cracked on Monday as Barrister Goke Ogunsola, legal adviser
to the party in the state, flanked by 11 other members of the SWC,
including the vice-chairman, Isah Azeez Adesiji, Assistant Secretary,
Rasheed Bakare and the Chairman of Local Government Chairmen, Rufus
Awotidoye, announced the suspension of Famodun and Salinsile.
Addressing newsmen in Osogbo, they said, "We want to state loud and
clear that we do not have confidence in the party's Chairman and
Secretary in the state again.
"Therefore, we hereby pass a vote of no confidence on Prince Gboyega
Famodun, and Alhaji Abdul Rasak Salinsile, the Chairman and Secretary
of the APC in the State of Osun respectively."
In response, Kunle Oyatomi, Osun APC Publicity Secretary, in a
statement called on all loyal and faithful members of the party to
ignore the development.
He urged them to "discountenance frivolous statement made by a few
disgruntled members of the State Executive who are saying that the
officials have been suspended from the party".
"That statement is absolute nonsense. They have no such right
constitutionally to say what they have said and their purpose is
purely anti-party. Obviously, these members have other interests to
protect than what the party stands for.
"The public, as well as our members, should be informed that the APC
is solidly behind our leadership and nothing of the sort is happening
inside our ranks.
"We are absolutely certain that fifth columnists within the party, who
feared they could lose out in the coming primary exercise are trying
to introduce confusion into our ranks. But they will fail woefully.
"Our members are, therefore, urged to stay calm and resolute and they
should not allow themselves to be deceived by people who have the
least interest of Osun and APC at heart. APC is solidly united and
unshakeable.
