APC crisis: Why defected Senators, Reps are not personalizing their defection – R-APC’s spokesman, Afegbua
Kazeem Afegbua, has reacted to the massive defection of Senators and
House of Reps members to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
We had reported that no fewer than 15 senators of the ruling All
Progressives Congress, APC, Tuesday, defected to the PDP. The
defectors cited crisis and factions as the reasons for their
defection, saying they cannot continue to pursue their political
careers under the ruling party.
Similarly, a total of 37 members of the House of Representatives
announced their official defection from the All Progressives Congress
(APC).
Speaking as a guest on AIT television news hour, on Tuesday night,
Afegbua said the senators who defected were not personalizing their
defection.
He said, "The members who defected are not personalizing their
defection. They have problems with the trading of APC's leadership
both at the government level and the party level. You heard one of the
lawmaker saying that a lot of them are been criminalized, disgraced in
a manner that defeat the very essence of democracy.
"So the President has not offered credible election so far. The
insecurity in the country is something to worry about, the
unemployment rate is something to worry about and the economy
generally.
"There is poverty in the land. We are now assuming number one position
in extreme poverty in the entire world; that is an ugly narrative that
shouldn't be allowed to continue.
"And so what the members have done is to team up with the likes of
some of us and build a very strong coalition that will ensure that
this government does not get re-elected come February 2019."
