World Cup 2018: Nigeria v Argentina: Team news, injury, Potential lineups
do-or-die last group D game of the 2018 World Cup holding in Russia.
The game will be played simultaneously at 7pm [Nigerian time] on
Tuesday with that between Croatia and Iceland. Nigeria and Argentina
will battle at St Petersburg.
Iceland will also be seeking to beat Croatia who has already booked
their place in the round of 16.
Argentina drew their first game against Iceland and lost the second
group game 3-0 to Croatia. Jorge Sampaoli's men will be seeking to
redeem their image.
Barcelona star, Lionel Messi, would also be looking for his first goal
in the tournament having failed to score in his last two games against
Iceland and Croatia.
There are rumoured crisis in the camp of the South Americans and
Sampaoli has been highly criticized over team selection with reports
emerging that the players will be making the choice of who plays when
they face Nigeria on Tuesday.
Injury worries: There are no injury worries in Argentina squad as the
trio of Nicolas Otamendi, Gabriel Mercado and Lucas Biglia have
returned to training ahead of the game.
They had failed to train on Saturday at the team's training base in
Bronnisty with doubts on their availability for the game against the
Super Eagles.
They have, however, recovered from their physical discomforts and
trained normally with their teammates on Sunday morning.
Potential lineup for Argentina: Armani; Tagliafico, Otamendi, Mercado,
Salvio; Enzo Perez, Mascherano, Banega; Di Maria, Higuain or Aguero,
Messi.
For Nigeria, the Super Eagles lost 2-0 in their first 2018 World Cup
game against Croatia and bounced back to beat Iceland 2-0 in the
second game.
Injury worries: Head coach of the Super Eagles, Gernot Rohr, confirmed
that captain John Mikel Obi sustained a hand injury, during their 2-0
win over Iceland on Friday.
However, Rohr expects his captain to feature against Argentina in the
last Group D fixture, even if it means he wears a cast.
Every other member of the team has, however participated in their
training and getting set for the make or mar encounter.
Potential lineup for Nigeria: Uzoho, Ebuehi, Idowu, Balogun,
Troost-Ekong, Ndidi , Etebo, Mikel Iheanacho, Moses,Musa.
