June 12: Buhari sacrificed for collective good – Ribadu reacts to new Democracy Day

Former chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Nuhu Ribadu has commended President Muhammadu Buhari on the cancellation of May 29 as Democracy Day, and the subsequent announcement of June 12 as the new date.

TITOPE BLOG recalls that President Buhari announced the change in date via a statement on Wednesday.
The late Chief Gani Fawehinmi, SAN, was also posthumously awarded a GCON for his tireless fight for human rights and democracy, and push for the actualisation of the June 12, 1993 elections.

Reacting to the development which has stirred varying reactions, Ribadu said it is a celebration of sacrifice for the collective good of Nigerians.
He also expressed joy at the posthumous honour bestowed on Gani Fawehinmi
“Beyond celebration of democracy, this is a celebration of struggle and sacrifice for the collective good. Thank you, President Buhari.

“I’m particularly delighted that this one-man-gang for all that is civil and good is honoured today. Gani Fawehinmi lived for Nigeria. He tirelessly fought for human rights and respect for the rule of law. Gani was a true hero who should be celebrated,” Ribadu tweeted.
