Senate adjourns sitting as fire guts chamber

Senators Thursday abruptly adjourned sitting to next Tuesday ,February
20, following the fire outbreak from the technical room adjacent to
the hallowed chamber.

Against the backdrop of the unfunctional air-conditions in the upper
chamber as a direct consequence of the incident, the senate was ready
to commence sitting as scheduled.

But senator Ibrahim Abdullahi Gobir representing Sokoto east moved for
adjournment on the excuse that the chamber was unconducive.

He said, 'The condition of our chamber is very unconducive. Yesterday,
we engaged the contractors working in the senate. We believe it is now
Saturday they will be able to finish it. I, therefore, move that we
adjourn this sitting until Tuesday next week. I, so move'. Gobir
averred.

Considering the motion so moved, senate president, Bukola Saraki hit
the gavel in affirmation of the majority approval.

Though the mover of the motion, cited the work being carried in NASS
as reason for the sudden adjournment but it was mainly not unconnected
with the fire incident.
