Police finally guns down ‘Mungo Park’, killer of Ogun DPO

A die hard hoodlum, Mungo Park, suspected killer of a former Divisional Police Officer, DPO, Adeyinka Akingbade of Ogbere Police Division in Ogun State, has been killed.
He was shot dead during a gun duel with police officers on Monday.

The State Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, confirmed the incident.
He said Park, who fell to the superior gun power of policemen, was earlier declared wanted.
A member of the three-man gang that attacked the DPO, Ganiyu Wasiu, who was arrested during the encounter, named Park, who mysteriously disappeared from the hotel, as the leader of the gang.
The PPRO, in a statement said, “Park has been on the wanted list of the police before being sighted at a bear parlour in Itawade area of Ijebu Ife and when policemen arrived the place, he had already moved out and he was traced to his in-law’s house, where the police caught up with him.

“On sighting the police, Park brought out his gun and engaged the security team before he was shot dead.
“The suspect who escaped arrest and fled to Delta state after shooting the DPO has been on the wanted list and the command has been on his trail since then.
“Luck however ran against him on Christmas day when police operatives received information, that he was sighted in a beer parlour at Itawade area of Ijebu Ife.
“Upon the information, the policemen swiftly moved to the place, but before getting there, he has left the place. He was however traced to his in law house where the police operatives caught up with him.

“Having realized that the game is up, he brought out a pistol and started firing at the policemen, the operatives were left with no other alternative than to fire back consequence upon which he was shot dead.”
