DELSU VC gets 14-day ultimatum to release withheld student’s degree result
The Chairman, Public Petitions Committee Hon. (Alaowei) Tonye Timi handed down the order in a resolution, following a petition by the member representing the people of Ethiope East Constituency in the House of Assembly, Hon. Evans Ochiko Ivwurie.
The Public Petitions Committee pointed out that, “The Committee invited both parties to wit: The University represented by the Vice Chancellor, Professor Victor Peretomode, the University Legal Officer B. A. Oyawiri Esq and the Petitioner with his Lawyer, who appeared before it severally”.
He said the committee after proper investigation, came up with its decision, stressing,” It is pertinent to note that the report has taken a strong position against the action of singling Mr. Solomon Ejiro Tedjere out for cruel or unjust treatment after graduating five years ago.”
The Committee stated that throughout the period of investigation, the University could not substantially prove to the Committee that the Petitioner was found unworthy in character or in learning and does not qualify for the award of the University degree.
Hon. Ivwurie had petitioned the House of Assembly on 15th March, 2017 over the non release of Mr. Solomon Tedjere’s degree result by DELSU.
In the petition on behalf of the Agricultural Science Student of the Department of Vocational Education, Mr. Oviemuno Obobolo Esq appealed to the Delta State House of Assembly to investigate the alleged victimization and unjust withholding of the student’s final year result five years after graduation on account of an unsubstantiated claims
