Restructuring will turn governors into Emperors – APGA chieftain, Goodman Akwu
Speaking with DAILY POST in Abuja, the politician cum human rights activist pointed out that those calling for restructuring were the most corrupt set of people, who would stop at nothing to see their ego massaged.
He noted that restructuring in the true sense of it meant regional autonomy and that governors would become Emperors by virtue of that autonomy and huge resources at their disposal.
“Imagine those who collect allocation in billions from Federal government and squander same between Abuja and their various states without recourse to due process and accountability.
“Governors will collapse state institutions like House of Assembly, the judiciary and local government Council into their personal estates,” he said.
He called on President Muhammadu Buhari not to succumb to the pressures, adding that “if restructuring was the way to go, why did the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) which ruled the country for 16 years refuse to restructure?”
“Restructuring will lead to breaking up of Nigeria. We are all chorusing the sanctity and sacrosanct unity of Nigeria, but then the moment the powers are transferred to the governors, they will become powerful and sponsor the break up of the country, especially those of the South east”, he said.
He insisted that President Buhari would be presiding over the break up of the nation if he conceded to the unpopular demands.
