How we will deal with groups with separatists, divisive agenda – DSS

The Director-General of Department of States Services, DSS, Lawal Daura, has warned that the agency would not sit back and watch groups or individuals with separatists and divisive agenda carry out their plans.
Daura gave the warning while speaking at a National Security Seminar on “Unity in Diversity: Security and National Development”, organised by DSS in Abuja, on Wednesday.

The DSS boss stressed that those bent on pursuing their divisive and separatist activities which threaten national security should have a rethink.
According to Daura, “We will deploy the full amalgam of the security infrastructure to deal with subsisting and emerging developments capable of endangering lives and properties as well as our corporate existence as a nation.

“Globally, the security agencies form the core of institutions that give backbone to statehood.
“Consequently, every activity that represents an existential threat to the nation is a direct challenge to the security agencies which must be responded to.

“The security sector views the unity of this nation as a sacred trust and this task we will do our utmost to meet.
“It is hoped that we will identify our strengths and amplify them while evolving viable options to cure our weaknesses.’’
Daura’s warning is coming at a time when some pro-Biafra groups are calling for the secession of Nigeria and a coalition of Northern youths, Arewa Youths insisting that its October 1 quit notice asking Igbos to vacate their region stands.
