Transgender soldiers have challenged President Donald Trump over his
announcement on the ban he placed on transgenders serving in the
military.
A member of the LGBT who spoke to the press has vowed to continue his service in the military despite the announcement.
Recall that Donald Trump, Wednesday, took to his twitter account to
announce his intention to disallow transgender individuals to serve in
the military even if it means denying some of the bravest Americans the
right to serve and protect our nation.”
According to a report by Air force Times, a Staff Sergeant, Logan
Ireland, of the Air Force has said, ‘’You are not going to deny me my
right to serve my country when I am fully qualified and able and willing
to give my life.”
Mr Ireland, who is married to Army Corporal, Laila Villanueva, a
transgender woman also added that, “We have pilots, we have doctors, we
have combat medics, we have security forces members like myself.”
Reacting to the report, the first transgender to serve in the
military, retired army sergeant Shane Ortega said Mr Trump as a “war
dodger” with “no connection to reality.”
He said, “To be quite frank, my first thought was, ‘F**k!’”
“Trump is a man who is literally a war-dodger, who comes from a life
of privilege and silver spoon, who has no connection to reality
whatsoever, and I don’t know how much more the American public needs to
see that.”
It is unclear what the ban will mean for currently-serving transgender soldiers.
