Reps vote to override presidential assent after 30 days

Nigeria’s House of Representatives have reinforced the powers of the National Assembly to override the President in the passage of Budget and other Bills passed should the president withhold assent for 30 days.
The members also voted against the creation of new states and alteration of existing boundaries.

The Lower Legislative Chamber also voted for 35 affirmative positions for women in politics.
The Green Chamber said the President must nominate his ministers and form cabinet within 30 days of his inauguration.
The voting by the lawmakers was in line with the ongoing date on various amended items in the 1999 constitution.
