An apex Yoruba socio-cultural group, Yoruba Council of Elders, YCE, has noted that Nigeria is sitting on keg of gunpowder.
According to the group, the quit notice by coalition of Arewa Youths
on Igbos living in the North and agitation for State of Biafra by groups
in the Southeast were a reflection of the political atmosphere in the
country.
The group said this after its 19th executive members meeting held in Ibadan yesterday, the Oyo State capital.
Addressing newsmen immediately after the meeting, Secretary General
of the council, Dr Kunle Olajide said, “We are sitting on a keg of
gunpowder because no part of the country except the South West is at
peace and that peace in the South West is a peace of the graveyard.
“We have the largest number of unemployed graduates and our
infrastructures have collapsed. As far as YCE is concerned, the quit
notice by the Arewa Youths and the call for Biafra by IPOB are a
reflection of political thermometer and temperature of Nigeria.
“It shows there is uneasiness in every part of this nation. If Arewa
youths could go to Arewa House to give ultimatum, then you should know
they have the backing of some of their leaders.”
