Extend anti-corruption war to FRSC – CDHR begs FG
This is also as it proposed August 16, for a massive protest against alleged extortion by FRSC in the State.
The statement is titled, “Committee for the Defense of Human Rights Delta State Chapter to Mobilize a Peaceful Protest Against Federal Road Safety Corps for illegal Extortion on National Drivers License.”
Prince Taiga in the statement alleged that FRSC Command in Delta State was extorting Deltans between N18,000 to N25,000 for the National Drivers’ License.
“We are compelled by the collective reality of the Nigerian agenda to act at this point, seeking a corrupt free nation worth workable institutions.
“As a human right body, we can no longer sit in the comfortable chamber of disequilibrium while our state continues to burn under the gross and brutal extortion by the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) on National License.
Taiga added, “We call on the Presidency, the Department of State Services, Inspector General of Police, ICPC and other national anti-crime agencies to extend the anti-corruption war on the chronic corruption in the FRSC.
“We also call on all Deltans to join us in the protest and intellectual battle against the FRSC. A stitch in time saves nine.”
In a swift reaction, the Unit Commander, FRSC Warri Unit Command, Assistant Corps Commander, ACC Isah Seidu described the allegation by CDHR as spurious, unacceptable, cheap blackmail and total falsehood.
He noted that the FRSC was not involved in collection of money in the chain of agencies involved in issuance of National Drivers’ License.
Seidu charged CDHR to carry out thorough investigation on who and who was involved in collection of money and extortion rather than labeling FRSC as an agency promoting corrupt practices.
He noted that the responsibility of collection of funds lied with banks as FRSC only provided technical expertise for capturing.
According to him, “FRSC is not aware of the allegation and we are not involved at all in collection of money from those who come to process their licenses.
“It is after the processes have been concluded that FRSC comes in. FRSC comes in at the last stage with the technical manpower. I will advise CDHR to carry out proper investigation on this matter before they act in error.”
