30-year-old man chops off wife’s fingers for insisting on furthering her education [PHOTO]

A 30-year-old man named Rafiqul Islam has cut off the fingers of his wife, Hawa Akhter for insisting on furthering her education.
Islam had blindfolded his 21-year-old wife and taped her mouth under the pretense of surprising her with a gift, only to chop off her fingers.

Just as she held out her hand to receive the gift, he cut off all five of her fingers, The Times reports.
After chopping off the fingers, Islam ordered one of his relatives to throw the fingers in a dustbin to avoid doctors from reattaching them.
The incident occurred in Bangladesh after the 21-year-old woman began studying for a degree without her husband’s support.

According to the report, Islam had warned his wife of “severe consequences” if she did not give up her studies.

He was reportedly jealous because he only had a grade eight education while the wife wanted to further her studies.
Speaking to the newspaper, Akhter said: “After he came back to Bangladesh, he wanted to have a discussion with me. Suddenly, he blindfolded me and tied my hand. He also taped my mouth saying that he would give me some surprise gifts. But, instead he cut off my fingers.”

The Bangladesh Police Chief, Mohammed Saluddin said Islam had confessed after he was arrested in the capital, Dhaka, and will face charges of permanent disfiguration.
“He was enraged. He was jealous because while he only had a grade eight standard education, she was off to college to pursue higher studies,” said Saluddin.”
