Kogi Assembly VS suspended lawmaker: Court decides case tomorrow

The Kogi state high Court sitting in Lokoja will tomorrow, 29th June determine the case filed by the member representing Igalamela Odolu constituency in Kogi state House of Assembly, Honorable Friday Sanni Makama against the leadership of the Assembly and the Kogi State governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello.
Recall that the lawmaker was suspended on the 28th of March this year, by the House for alleged anti-legislative activities.

His suspension followed a motion of urgent public importance filed by Honourable Hassan Abdullahi Bello (APC Ajaokuta constituency).
He explained that the embattled lawmaker had overreached himself and dragging the image of the House to disrepute.
Honourable Friday Sanni, however, dragged the Kogi State House of Assembly before the court, challenging his suspension from the House as uncalled for and against the wish of his constituents.

In an earlier hearing before Justice Johnson Olusuyi at the Kogi state High Court, Lokoja, counsel to the plaintiff, Jubrin Okutepa (SAN) argued that the suspension of the plaintiff was a gross violation of the fundamental mandate of the people he represents in the State.
He referred the judge to exhibit C (1) which is the vote and proceeding of the assembly, describing it as a “total arrogance of power. ”
He called on the judge to rescue the claimants as the House had failed to give him fair hearing, adding that the court should stop the purported suspension and adjudged what the defendant had done as self-help.

Counsel to the defendant, Gabriel Saliu told the judge that the lawmakers acted upon the standing rule of the Assembly.
Saliu said all cases cited by the plaintiff are not relevant to the case, urging the court to disregard them.
