Muhammad Ali and Saonji Roi met in June 1964 and it was a whirlwind romance by any definition: he proposed to her the night they met, when she was 23 and he was 22. Muhammad Ali was born Cassius Clay and he had not yet changed his name when they were married.
This photo, from June 1965, shows Sonji Roi after their separation. According to The Telegraph, they separated because of his devotion to Islam. She felt like the religion had stolen him from her.
