The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the Northeast, have declared
their support for the presidential ambition of former Vice President,
Atiku Abubakar and Gombe state Governor, Hassan Dankwambo.
They made their position known at a meeting on Thursday in Gombe to
discuss how to clinch the party's presidential ticket for the 2019
general election.
In a communiqué released at the end of the meeting chaired by Zonal
Chairman, Amb. Emmanuel Njiwah, the zone agreed to solicit for support
from other geo-political zones.
Chairman of the PDP in Adamawa State, Barr. Tahir Shehu, disclosed
that zonal elders have been meeting with party leaders in other
regions, especially the North West.
"The PDP North East zonal office has resolved to work for the
emergence of either Gov. Dankwambo or Atiku Abubakar as the party's
flag-bearer come 2019," he said.
The stakeholders noted that the region had been left out despite
contributing to the emergence of presidents from other zones,
particularly the North West.
"This time around, we feel the North East should be given the chance
to produce the next flag-bearer of the PDP," Shehu added.
He said the gathering, however, condemned the killing of innocent
Nigerians in the North "without proactive measures by the APC-led
Federal Government to tackle the carnage."
