over the allegation of certificate forgery, was laid to rest, on Friday, by an FCT High Court, sitting in Apo, Abuja.
Honourable Uchenna Nnamdi, a member of Senator Andy Uba’s
constituency, had approached the court, alleging that the Senator forged
his Ordinary Level certificate, issued him by the West African
Examination Council (WAEC), in 1980.
Nnamdi also challenged the eligibility Senator Uba to hold any public
office in nigeria, even as the lawmaker had already indicated interest
to run for the forthcoming governorship election in Anambra state.
In a ruling that lasted for over two hours, the presiding Judge,
Valentine Ashi, held that, the Plaintiff failed to discharge the burden
of proof bestowed on him, and so his suit stands dismissed.
The court also held that, the same WAEC certificate has been used by
the defendant since 2007, without any alteration, and wonders the
foundation upon which the suit was based, since the defendant’s election
forms submitted in INEC, over three elections he participated was the
same, without any alteration.
Justice Ashi also ruled that, the defendant, Senator Andy Uba was
eligible to hold any elective position as far as he meets the minimum
educational requirement provided by the constitution of Nigeria.
