Nigeria vs South Africa: Winger Tau reveals what Super Eagles’ second goal did to Bafana Bafana

South Africa top winger, Percy Tau has claimed that the second goal his side conceded to Nigeria at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nation, AFCON, quarter-final encounter on Wednesday, broke the determination of Bafana Bafana to fight on in the match.
The 25-year-old noted that the goal was scored at a time Stuart Baxter’s men were unable to muster a serious comeback against Gernot Rohr’s side.
Tau stated this ahead of Nigeria’s semi-final clash against Algeria on Sunday at the Cairo International Stadium in Egypt.
Speaking in an interview with SportingLife, Tau said: “We were not disappointed with the result, to be honest. It was just unfortunate we conceded a late goal in the match through a set piece.
“I think that goal killed off the remaining energies we could have used to see out the game. We didn’t have another chance to muster a comeback.”
South Africans will now have to wait until Cameroon 2021 AFCON to possibly end a 25-year trophy drought.
